Oil and gas companies are preparing for the possibility of protests during the G8 summit, it emerged today.

Workers at the Shell and Marathon headquarters in Aberdeen are being briefed by security staff on the threat of potential demonstrations and how to deal with them should they occur.

The force stressed there was nothing to indicate any specific threat against the companies, but that they were working with the firms to raise awareness.
