AFX Europe (Focus): Shell makes 2 finds in Nigeria's 'Big Cat' prospects: Thursday July 28, 2005

LONDON (AFX) - Royal Dutch Shell PLC said it made two discoveries in the "Big Cat" oil and gas prospects in Nigeria.

The wells, in blocks OPL 322 and OPL 245, were both in frontier areas.

The Bobo-1X hole, located in block OPL 322, struck over 140 metres of hydrocarbon-bearing sands after drilling to a depth of 5,173 metres, the second deepest offshore well in the country.

The second well, called Etan-1X, situated in block OPL 245, logged 120 metres of hydrocarbon-bearing sands.

Shell owns a 40 pct stake in OPL 322, and a 100 pct interest in OPL 245.
