Western People (Ireland): Shell executive apologises to Dr Jerry Cowley: Posted Thursday 15 Sept 2005
A senior member of SEPIL management was forced to apologise to Mayo TD Dr Jerry Cowley last week. During an interview with Liamy McNally on Mid West radio last Thursday, Mark Carrigy, Operations Manager, Corrib Gas Project, was critical of Dr Jerry Cowley’s proposed visit to Norway.
Mr Carrigy labelled the Deputy’s travel plans as a junket and said Dr Cowley should not travel to Norway.
Dr Cowley went on air soon thereafter and asked Mr Carrigy to apologise for his comments. The TD told the Western People: “A junket implies that you are going off at someone else’s expense and having a high time for yourself.”
He said Mr Carrigy’s comments were typical of SEPIL’s attitude and arrogance. He explained that he had arranged his impending trip so that he could inform the Norwegian government, Unions and people of the Rossport 5 and the situation in Ireland with regard to the Corrib gas project.
“The Norwegian Government owns 25% of that gas field and they have a responsibility to be aware of what is happening in Ireland,” Dr Cowley said.
