European pressure over Iran's nuclear programme is putting at risk multi-billion dollar energy deals with oil majors, including Total and Royal Dutch Shell, Iranian officials have warned, writes Najmeh Bozorgmehr in Tehran. Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), on Tuesday explicitly linked oil and gas contracts to the fate of deadlocked nuclear talks with the "EU3" - Britain, France and Germany.

He warned Europe against supporting the US in trying to refer Iran to the UN Security Council. "Some countries with economic interests especially in oil do not show any feelings of responsibility - the SNSC is determined to create a balance and provide the ground for their participation [in energy projects] accordingly," Mr Larijani said.
