AFX Europe (Focus): Shell, unions resume pensions negotiations under threat of more strikes: "Shell will have to come forward with new proposals -- just talking and talking won't stop us from striking," the union spokesperson said.”: Thursday November 03, 2005

AMSTERDAM (AFX) - Royal Dutch Shell management and unions representing the company's workers in the Netherlands resumed negotations over Shell's pension proposals at midday today.

A CNV union spokesperon said planned strikes at the NAM gas production and refinery facilities in Den Helder and Emmen are to start this afternoon if no compromise is reached between the unions and Shell. Royal Dutch Shell has a stake in the Dutch NAM national gas production organisation.

Meanwhile, a third of production at Shell's oil refineries has been halted, with the union spokesperson saying the union will await the outcome of today's negotiations before deciding whether to expand the strikes to include more of the refineries' production processes.

"Shell will have to come forward with new proposals -- just talking and talking won't stop us from striking," the union spokesperson said.

The talks between the unions and Shell, which started yesterday after the workers agreed to suspend expanding their strikes, were suspended late last night.
