A claims hotline has been established for individuals to report damage caused by a Shell refinery leak that blanketed parts of Martinez in oil droplets.

Steve Lesher, Shell Oil spokesman, doesn't know how many people were affected by the release, but said the hotline has received dozens of calls since Wednesday.

Shell said the leak posed no health hazards, but residents say the oily residue marred vehicles, homes, pets, plants and other outdoor items

The "oil slurry" mist occurred after a leak from a catalytic cracking unit about 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, a Shell news release said.

Individuals who feel their property has been impacted by the release can contact Linda Evans, claims manager, at 1-888-547-2397.
