Shell Canada Press Release: Shell announces $250,000 for new Fort McMurray recreational facility: Wednesday December 7, 2005

CALGARY, Dec. 7 /CNW/ - Shell Canada Limited today announced a $250,000 donation from the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP) to Keyano College's Sport and Wellness Campaign in support of a new recreational facility for students as well as the wider community of Fort McMurray. The contribution will go toward the construction of a multi-sport playing field.

"Our support to Keyano College is one of the ways we support Fort McMurray and ensure it has the facilities and resources it needs to keep up with a growing and active community. Access to recreational facilities is important to the community and our employees," said Brian Straub, Senior Vice President of Oil Sands for Shell Canada Limited, the AOSP's largest owner.

The AOSP is a joint venture among Shell Canada Limited (60 per cent), Chevron Canada Limited (20 per cent) and Western Oil Sands L.P. (20 per cent), and consists of the Muskeg River Mine north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, operated by Albian Sands Energy, and the Scotford Upgrader near Edmonton.

Jim Foote, President of Keyano College said, "Once again, the AOSP through Albian Sands has demonstrated it is a strong contributor to the vitality of northeastern Alberta."

Keyano's new recreational centre will be a community-use complex offering state-of-the-art recreation and training facilities. The facility will be constructed as a field house which will include a running track, a gymnasium and indoor playing fields for sports such as indoor soccer, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and seating for major events. Fitness and aerobic facilities, high performance and strength training resources, and a Kinesiology Lab will also be included in the Centre.

The facility is slated to open its doors to the public in 2007.
