Asia Pulse: SHELL TO BUILD JOINT FILLING STATIONS IN CHINA'S CHONGQING”: This is part of Shell's ambitious plan of bringing the number of its filling stations to 1,000 in China in next five years.”: Posted 14 December 2005

CHONGQING, Dec 13 Asia Pulse - Shell Company is negotiating with a large non-state enterprise on setting up joint filling stations in Chongqing in southwest China.

Shell may take the controlling shares and provide brand, management and gasoline supply, while the Chinese non-state firm will be charged with expanding filling station network.

If the negotiation goes smoothly, the first batch of joint venture filling stations will start operation in June 2006.

This is part of Shell's ambitious plan of bringing the number of its filling stations to 1,000 in China in next five years.

It will touch off fiercer competition with Sinopec and PetroChina, which are now speeding up the pace of opening filling stations along Expressways in Chongqing and major urban regions.
