Calpers, the US pension fund, is calling for Shell to appoint a committee of independent directors to undertake a rigorous re-examination of the group's management, its succession planning, nomination of independent directors and composition of its board. The fund, which has a 0.6pc stake, said Shell's Dutch board "has failed to respond effectively to shareowner demands".
