Royal Dutch Shell, the Anglo-Dutch oil giant, has announced that the security situation in the Niger Delta has improved sufficiently for its 300 evacuated staff to return to work. Nigeria’s biggest oil producer expects to restart production of 30,000 barrels per day soon, after fighting between rebel militia and the military around Port Harcourt had died down following a month of escalating violence.
