Business Times (Malaysia): MOU to increase trade ties with Aussie state (ShellNews.net)

Sep 10, 2004

THE Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) and the Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory (CCNT) in Australia yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at increasing collaboration between Malaysian and Australian businessmen.

The MOU, among others, provides for the establishment of an International Business Linkage Programme (IBLP) to ensure that the business communities in Malaysia and Australia are kept updated on trade and investment opportunities in both countries.

The signing of the MOU coinicides with the opening of the three-day Sabah International Expo 2004 in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

Witnessed by Northern Territory of Australia Chief Minister Claire Martin and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat, the MOU was signed by MICCI president Jon Chadwick while CCNT was represented by its International Business Council chairman Mark Norman.

Chadwick, who is also Shell Malaysia's chairman, said the IBLP seeks to establish in a very simple fashion a progressive set of communication and consultation facilities, managed by the respective chambers.

"We believe both MICCI and CCNT members can benefit from the IBLP and a faster and more focused ability to deal with queries pertaining to businesses in each area," Chadwick said.

Norman said information about business opportunities throughout Malaysia and Australia will be exchanged through the IBLP.

"Information received by CCNT under the IBLP will be distributed to chambers of commerce throughout Australia," he said.
