THE COVER-UP STRATEGY AND THREATS CONTINUE TO THIS DAY
In November 2002 Shell legal director Richard Wiseman circulated to Shell directors including Sir Philip Watts, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart and Malcolm Brinded, a document drafted by me which set out the full history of these sleazy matters; a catalogue of cover-up, lies, deceit and deception endorsed by the top management of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. Shell subsequently issued threats intended to stop such information from reaching shareholders and the public. As can be seen from the letter below, threats were made against my family from the Shell Group Chairman downwards; threats from Mark Moody-Stuart, Shell Managing Director David Varney and even from Shell Transport Company Secretary Jyoti Munsiff.
The threats from Shell have continued into 2004. The last threat against me emanated from Shell lawyers in Malaysia just a few weeks ago. My son received a written threat from a Shell director last month, July 2004.
What this all demonstrates is that during the last decade there has been a consistent policy of cover-up by Shell senior management exactly in line with the serious charges in the recent class action law suits. And it involves the same individuals; Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Sir Philip Watts, Jeroem van der Veer, Maarten van den Bergh, Malcolm Brinded, etc.
Under the circumstances the reserves scandal came as no surprise to me as I had consistently warned about the lack of scruples at Shell. Published below are examples of leaflets distributed at Shell HQ buildings in the summer of 1998. They happen to refer to the "Macarena" Shell management shindig mentioned in the BBC Money Programme broadcast on 15 July 2004. One leaflet also highlighted the difference between the management approach of Shell compared with its rival BP (it is a pity that no one took any notice as BP went on as we all know to completely eclipse Shell).
