The London equity market was led higher yesterday by strong performances from oil and gas shares and the mining sector.
BP and BG Group were up 1.3 per cent to 539p and 3.4 per cent to 372¼p, respectively as crude oil prices hit new highs. Cairn Energy added 1.7 per cent to £15.25 but Shell fell 0.3 per cent to 407½p as investors switched into BP.
