The Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas is honoring Elsenhans with the award that annually recognizes a woman who has excelled in her field and shown a commitment to the advancement of women and to the community.
"This is our top award, given to recognize extraordinary achievements and leadership of Texas' most distinguished business women," said Rose Batson, president of the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas. "Lynn Elsenhans is a role model for many. Not only is she one of the nation's highest-ranking corporate executives, she leads a company committed to progressive initiatives that benefit business women. Shell has an aggressive supplier diversity program to ensure that woman- and minority-owned businesses have a fair shot at earning their share of the 'economic development pie.' "
Elsenhans is on the board of trustees for Rice University and on the council of overseers for the Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice. She is on the boards of the Greater Houston Partnership, American Petroleum Institute, National Urban League and the World Golf Foundation.
A graduate of Rice University with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematical science, Elsenhans received an master of business administration from Harvard University in 1980 before joining Shell Oil.
She held numerous senior management assignments, including president of Shell Oil Products East based in Singapore and director of strategic planning, sustainable development and external affairs for Shell International Ltd. in London.
Houston-based Shell Oil, a subsidiary of the Anglo-Dutch oil giant, is one of America's leading oil and natural gas producers, natural gas marketers, gasoline marketers and petrochemical manufacturers.
