Forbes/AFX News Limited: Shell declares force majeure in Nigeria as pipeline fire continues: “The fire, which followed an explosion early this week, cut the Anglo-Dutch group's production in Nigeria by 180,000 barrels per day.”: Thursday 22 December 2005
LONDON (AFX) - Royal Dutch Shell PLC has been forced to declare a force majeure as fire in a major pipeline in the Niger Delta region continues.
'Following the cut in crude supply to the Bonny terminal, a force majeure was declared,' a Shell spokeswoman told AFX News.
The fire, which followed an explosion early this week, cut the Anglo-Dutch group's production in Nigeria by 180,000 barrels per day.
Declaring a force majeure relieves Shell of the obligation to perform under certain contracts.
