European Nickel, the
mining group, reported widened full-year
losses of £6.1 million, from £3 million
last time, but said it was close to
beginning production of nickel and
bringing in revenues.
Placer Dome, the
gold miner, has agreed to a takeover
approach from Barrick Gold, after the
rival miner sweetened its offer to $10.4
billion (£6 billion). The move will make
Barrick the world’s largest gold
producer.

(£80.5 million) deal.
