Shell Gas Lanka Ltd (SGLL) provided assistance by way of a grant, to dealers on the Southern coastline of Sri Lanka worst affected by the tsunami.
The grant, which includes cylinders and LPG accessories worth Rs. 1 million, will help these dealers resume their livelihood.
The items were personally handed over to them by Country Chairman/MD Shell Gas Lanka Hassan Madani, accompanied by Sales Director Radesh Daluwatte and Regional Sales Manager (South) Susantha Fernando.
A total of 60 Shell dealers were affected by the tsunami, of which 21 dealers were very hard hit, suffering financial losses estimated at Rs. 2.4 million (excluding LPG stocks).
One dealer at Hambantota died in the tsunami and about six dealers sustained minor injuries.
Several dealer points along the coastline had been washed away completely, leaving just the foundation.
Shell's Regional Sales Manager for the Southern region, Susantha Fernando and staff, visited the affected dealers on December 27 last year, the day following the tsunami, to ascertain the difficulties they faced as a result of the disaster, and to estimate the extent of the damage caused to the Shell business and distribution channel.
