CAMARILLO, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Solar, the nation's largest manufacturer of photovoltaics, has provided a CIS Thin Film solar electric array to the city of San Francisco. In honor of the UN World Environment Day and the California Tomorrow Festival, the exhibition and dedication of the array will be staged on display starting May 29th. After the festival, the array will be erected atop the San Francisco Civic Center Parking Garage.
Maarten Geuze, President of Shell Solar Industries notes, "San Francisco has adopted ambitious programs to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And this solar electric array will be a testament to the people of San Francisco's dedication and passion for solar electricity. We are extremely proud to be a part of this global event."
In today's energy-challenged environment, solar electricity helps alleviate the huge demand on utilities during peak hours. Shell Solar's CIS Thin Film products uniquely deliver more energy per kilowatt under low light, cloudy, or shaded conditions, where other products such as crystalline products are vulnerable. Shell Solar's CIS thin film products are also remarkable for their aesthetics, making them especially suitable for building integrated solutions. Solar is also good for the community and the environment. The city will benefit from this particular Shell Solar photovoltaic system because in an average year, it is estimated to generate 2,600 kilowatt hours of electricity, avoiding 3,200 pounds of harmful CO2 emissions.
