ABC NEWS ONLINE (AUSTRALIA): Authority clears Shell over refinery pollution fears: Thursday 18 August 2005
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) says concern over the emissions of a cancer causing agent from Shell's Geelong plant in Victoria are unfounded.
Some residents have accused Shell of withholding data that indicates there were high emissions of benzene during April.
The EPA has warned the company to continue to work towards lowering its emission levels.
EPA spokesman Bruce Dawson says residents should not be concerned.
"EPA scientist have examined Shell's data and we conclude that that does not show high levels of benzene," he said.
