Reuters: Shell says Port Arthur refinery has partial power: Thu Oct 6, 2005

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Shell Oil Co. (RDSa.L: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday partial electrical power has been restored to its joint venture 285,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Motiva Enterprises LLC refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.

Shell expects the refinery, which was shut prior to Hurricane Rita striking the U.S. Gulf Coast on September 24, will restart in October, according to a statement.

"We continue to work as quickly a possible to restart operations, which we expect to occur within the month," Shell said in the statement. "The plant will be brought up gradually and safely towards full production over several days once start-ups begin."

Partial electrical power was restored to the Port Arthur refinery on Tuesday, Shell said.

Shell also said its 340,000 bpd joint venture refinery in Deer Park, Texas, continues to increase production after restarting following being shut for Rita.

The Deer Park refinery is operated by Deer Park Refining LP, a joint venture between Shell and Mexican state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos.

Motiva is a joint venture between Shell and Saudi Refining Inc.

Shell Oil Co. is the U.S. unit of Royal Dutch Shell Plc.
