TEHRAN, Dec. 6 (MNA) — Akbar Torkan, the managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company said on Tuesday that Iran signed the contract with the Royal Dutch Shell Company and Italian Repsol on developing the downstream section of phases 13 and 13A of the South Pars (SP) gas field.

He added that Shell, in cooperation with Repsol has conducted studies on the principled engineering on these phases, and presently they are carrying out the detailed engineering.  

He explained that Shell will extract the gas from the field to turn it to liquefied natural gas (LNG).  

Moreover, in the upstream section of project developing phases 13 and 13A, Shell is the general contractor, and in the downstream section it holds 50 percent of the shares, he further explained.  

Speaking about South Pars Phase 11, Torkan noted that the French Total Company has taken the development project of this phase, and it is currently conducting the studies. The company will carry out supply market as 5 million tons per unit of the project. The market will be mostly in the European countries, the managing director added. 

Last month, Torkan told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) that the master development plan (MDP) of phases 13 and 13A had been finalized after which the studies of the principled engineering would be carried out and then the phases would be put on tender.

The first important project Shell has taken in Iran is Noruz and Sorush oilfields, however, the company is yet to complete them as scheduled. Presently, the development project of these oilfields is hindered due to the certain repair being carried out in the fields. The repairing would take several months.
