The announcement of Shell Marine's new facilities in Mobile is a bonus for Michiel Kool, who has been in the chief executive role for one year. He took over the position in January 2004 from Steve Harman, who was promoted to vice-president of Shell Industrial Lubricants.
'This is an exciting time for the shipping industry, and we in Shell Marine are proud to support our customers,' said Mr Kool.
'We are putting our customers first in whatever we do and can offer global strength with a local face,' he told Lloyd's List
Mr Kool is steadily building the business on the back of Mr Harman's early work and is bringing some of his experience in previous roles in the Royal Dutch'Shell group.
He started out as a petroleum engineer working in Gabon, New Zealand and Oman and was head of safety in Oman in 1991. He then became a senior economist with the group working in the Netherlands.
He is also no stranger to building businesses after working for Shell in Brazil. From 1998 he was responsible for establishing the Shell Exploration and Production business in Brazil and then became vice-president of the team in that country.
