HOUSTON, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Oil Company and Motiva Enterprises LLC are proud to announce that the American Red Cross has recognized the charitable spirit and generous donations of Shell and Motiva with the 2005 Circle of Humanitarians Award. The Circle of Humanitarians Award honors companies and individuals whose generous contributions provide life-saving support through American Red Cross programs.

Shell and Motiva are receiving the Circle of Humanitarians Award for financial contributions made by the companies and their employees during 2004-05 to the American Red Cross' disaster relief funds, primarily in response to the South Asian tsunami, as well as Hurricanes Charley, Ivan and Jeanne, which affected the Southeast US and Puerto Rico in the fall of 2004.

Through a successful internal campaign, Shell and Motiva employees contributed more than $125,000 to the South Asian tsunami relief efforts through the American Red Cross. Combined with the companies' donation of $350,000, Shell and Motiva contributed more than $475,000 -- the largest donation received by the American Red Cross from any Houston company for tsunami relief efforts and one of the highest totals nationwide. With hurricane-relief donations totaling $175,000, including $100,000 in gasoline cards, Shell's and Motiva's 2004-05 disaster-relief contribution to the American Red Cross totaled $650,000.
