(Update) The FTSE 100 is lower, with talk of a Shell bid for US gas company Williams causing concern as a flurry of takeover speculation hits the market.
At 11.20am the FTSE 100 was off nine points at 4,844, the FTSE 250 was four points better off 7,111 and the techMARK edged up a point to 1,228.
The FTSE Eurofirst 300 was two points lighter at 1,058.
Shares in Shell declined 2.75p to 460.75p, with losses of between 3.75p and 16p for Cairn Energy (CNE) at £11.31, BG (BG.) 365.5p and BP (BP.) 280p, also a major factor behind the Footsie's weak showing.
